Probably because I'm being overdramatic about it. Anyway, clearly I don't have to worry about sounding like an old man if I can't talk at all.

[ streeetching and shifting halfway through it, dissolving and reforming as a shaggy black-brown wolfdog practically Yael's height. which promptly finishes the stretch by play-bowing at him ]

just. wags and looks really smug, grinning with his tongue lolled out. ]

[reaching to pet him anyway.]

Can't say I'm much of a dog person.

[ snorts. and yet here you are, petting me. ]

[He's doing it without enthusiasm, almost as a courtesy.]

You can't talk like this?

turning to lick his hand perfunctorily, and then stepping out of petting range to shake himself before shaking his head "no" ]

[crossing his arms, then, looking at him thoughtfully.]

Hmm. That was the point, I guess.

[ nods |D and then stretches again, tail wagging leisurely, before trotting a few steps away and looking over his shoulder in a pretty clear indication that Yael is to follow ]

[ the decision to dog and perhaps Chris's overall excitement for getting outside may become a little clearer as they go, because he does in fact approach the excursion exactly as a dog would: getting distracted by things to smell, occasionally galloping ahead and then looping back around to beam at Yael, generally just very visibly having A Good Time. he doesn't push Yael to match his pace at all, seeming content to loop back or wait for him as necessary ]

[good, because yael seems to have no interest in keeping up with a large dog. he's taking this adventure quietly and steadily, more like he's trying to learn their surroundings than enjoy them, but he does smile back at Chris whenever he circles back.]

eventually burns off enough energy to slow down and pad alongside him, which is about when they get to the park anyway. ]

[settles a hand on his ruff, then, casual]
